The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on government to normalize involving labour unions in the decision making of major socio economic policy reforms like the review of the Free Senior High School programme and the IMF programme.
According to a statement by the union, labour’s input must be sought and factored into any review.
“TEWU of TUC(Ghana), will like to urge the new government not to see labour as an afterthought, when taking major socio-economic policy decisions, like any review of the Free Senior High School Programme, the 1992 Constitution, Ghana-IMF agreements, among others”.
The statement added, “Labour’s input must be sought and seriously factored into any such future reviews, because the cumulative negative effect is borne by Ghanaian workers both in the formal and informal sectors”.
TEWU of TUC mentioned that, the voices of labour unions matter, hence President Mahama and his government should make a conscious effort to involve them.
“Let us remember that, every voice in our country matters, and every effort we make together must be one that strengthens and accelerates national progress”.
The Union urged its members to come together to fight for their rights
“Let us together, continue to fight for the rights and dignity of every Ghanaian Worker”.
“TEWU of TUC(Ghana), expects both labour and government to embrace the promise of a New Year filled with potential for growth and hope for a future, where fairness prevails”, the statement added.
