Tensions rise in Mampong as NDC youth demand muslim representation

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Mampong, Ashanti Region, have vowed to reject any nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who is not among the three names they have submitted to the President.

At a press conference, the group made up predominantly of Muslim youth, representing about 80% of the party’s grassroots in the area expressed their disappointment with the government and party leadership.

They recalled that during the 2024 elections, they were promised a share of the “national cake” through the Zongo Caucus Coordinator, a structure initiated by the NDC executives. However, they claim that since the party came into power, nothing has been heard or fulfilled from that promise.

They accused the party leadership of using them merely as a means to win political power and then abandoning them. In a strong message to the President, they warned that they would resist any MCE nominee who is not part of the three names they officially submitted.
