A group of youth in Tema has taken to the streets to protest the possible appointment of Ebi Bright as the next Mayor of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, urging President John Dramani Mahama to instead consider a native of the area for the position.
The demonstrators gathered at the premises of the Assembly, expressing their displeasure through chants, drumming, and the burning of tyres to draw attention to their demand.
Their protest follows emerging reports that Ebi Bright is being considered for the position, a development that has stirred controversy, especially after earlier expectations that Patience Ankamah Addo, believed to be an indigene, was the leading candidate.
Dora Sappor, a spokesperson for the concerned youth told reporters that the group firmly opposes Ebi Bright’s candidacy emphasizing the need for local representation at the Assembly’s highest level.
