Telecel Ghana Foundation’s Healthfest Brings Vital Healthcare to Nkonya Ntumda in the Oti Region

Stepping up once again to make a real difference in community health, the Telecel Ghana Foundation conducted its bimonthly Healthfest initiative, providing free health screening, consultation and medication to over 400 residents of Nkonya Ntumda and nearby communities in the Oti Region.

Healthfest is more than just a health screening event; it is a beacon of hope, bringing free medical consultations, screenings, and medications right to the doorsteps of those who need them most. Among the services provided were screenings for hypertension, diabetes, haemoglobin levels, typhoid, malaria, and hepatitis B. These crucial checks are part of a comprehensive approach to early detection and prevention of diseases, empowering communities to take charge of their health. The initiative’s impact was amplified by its commitment to enrolling over 300 beneficiaries onto the NHIS scheme, providing a sustainable solution to continued healthcare access.

“Today’s health screening was a blessing. Many of us can’t afford regular check-ups, and this programme has brought free healthcare to us. The enrollment onto NHIS is a huge relief for my family,” shared Anita, a local resident.

The District Director of Health Services for Biakoye District, Rita Wurapa, praised the initiative: “The collaboration with Telecel Ghana Foundation is invaluable. It is refreshing to know that Telecel Ghana isn’t just about providing telecommunications but is also committed to improving healthcare access and giving hope to many. This aligns perfectly with the district’s health services. We are grateful for their continued support in bringing vital health services to communities like ours.”

Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana, expressed the organization’s commitment to the cause: “Healthfest is more than just an event; it is a movement towards better healthcare for all, and we are dedicated to reaching every corner of Ghana with essential health services and ensuring that no one is left behind.”

The Healthfest initiative is part of Telecel Ghana Foundation’s broader mission to improve health and wellbeing across Ghana. This commitment is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being. Through initiatives like these, the Foundation is helping to build stronger, healthier communities.
