System failure on the part of authorities’ account for Samel Shakur doping woes – GBF Spokesperson

Ghana Boxing Federation Public Relations Officer, Joojo Ephson, has attributed amateur boxer Samel Shakur doping woes in the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham to the failure on the part of authorities.

According to him, the Ministry of Sports must put in place proper systems to deal with doping.

“This is due to the system failure on the part of we the Ghana Boxing Federation, the Ghana Olympics committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and also those in charge of the international Games Committee to put in place systems to check these athletes before leaving for the competition”, he stated during an interview on Wamputu Sports with Wofa Odiasempa Kwame Oware.

He further elaborated that, failure to have residential camps, testing of athletes before leaving for the competition in Birmingham and also poor supervision and monitoring of athletes was a major contributive factor in Samel Shakur’s suspension.

“The non-residential camping our athletes had to undergo that is, after each day’s training, athletes just leave to their respective homes and back to training whenever without any monitoring has played a major role in our athletes failing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.” He ended.
