The prime suspect in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, Daniel Owusu Koranteng is scheduled to appear in court today, Wednesday, April 2, following his recent arrest.
Koranteng faces charges related to the assassination of Suale, a journalist with Tiger Eye PI, renowned for exposing corruption in Ghanaian politics.
Ahmed Suale was fatally shot in January 2019 in Madina, Accra, an attack that drew widespread national and international condemnation due to his significant role in uncovering high-profile corruption cases.
Authorities report that Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, was allegedly present near the crime scene at the time of the shooting. Suale was ambushed and shot at close range by unidentified gunmen.
In addition to the murder charges, Koranteng is accused of betraying Suale by allegedly supplying his photographs to a politician suspected of involvement in the crime.
As legal proceedings begin, the case has reignited demands for justice and stronger protections for press freedom in Ghana.
