A suspect, who attacked and killed a cop, has been shot and killed by armed policemen.
The deceased cop was stationed at the Nyamebekyere police station in the Berekum District of the Bono Region, where the suspect was sent after an arrest for threatening to harm someone.
The suspect, Yaw Peprah, reportedly stabbed the officer at the counter several times with a concealed knife.
The officer was quickly rushed to the hospital but died on arrival.
“On reaching the frontage of the police station, the suspect who was armed with a knife hidden in his pocket attacked and stabbed the NCO severely on the neck and other parts of the body. The NCO was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment but died shortly on admission,” a police statement said.
The suspect managed to escape during the chaos and went into hiding.
However, a team managed to track him and found his hideout at Komfuokrom in Berekum.
Again, he attempted to stab the arresting officers with a knife, but he was overpowered.
“He was shot after several attempts to disarm him failed. He was also sent to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement explained.
The two bodies have since been deposited at the same hospital mortuary for preservation.
The knife which the suspect used has been retrieved to serve as evidence.
The police are making arrangements to inform the family of the cop as they shared a message of condolence on the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service.
