Senior Project Manager for Mapripoma Enterprise Limited, Ing. Abdulai Mahama has addressed the delay in completing the Ofankor-Nsawam road project, which commenced in September 2022 with an initial 24-month timeline. Despite being only 60% complete, Mr. Mahama attributed the delay to unforeseen challenges beyond their control.

In an interview with Happyghana.com he provided insight into the project’s status and the factors hindering its timely completion. According to Ing. Abdulai Mahama, the Ofankor-Nsawam road project is facing multiple challenges that are causing delays. These include disputes with settlers and landlords, the need to re-route high-tension wires belonging to ECG and GRIDCO, and a controversy surrounding a shrine that needed to be demolished to pave way for the construction to continue. However, the project team was informed that the gods associated with the shrine have traveled, leading to a 3 months delay.

To proceed with the demolition, the team had to perform a ritual, which involved providing two cattle and a monetary offering, as dictated by local customs. This unexpected turn of events has added to the challenges faced by the project team, further delaying the completion of the road.

Additionally, Mr. Mahama highlighted that the project’s timeline is complex, with the road itself designed to last 20 years, while the drainage systems are built to withstand 50 years of use. These factors have collectively contributed to the project’s slow progress.
