Sunyani Tennis Club showed their superiority at home beating NEDCo Tennis Club from Tamale 6-3 over the weekend at the Sunyani Tennis Club house.
In all 9 games were played with the Away team winning the singles 2-1 whiles the home team also won the doubles 5-1.
The tournament started with the men’s under 40 singles as Rahman Salifu of NEDCo Tennis Club ousted Yaw Boateng 7-3. The Away team continued their fine form as Sampson Sayibu defeated Gyaakye Aidoo 7-3.
In the above 40 singles, Daniel Agyepong however, turned the tables around for the home team with fabulous plays spiced with creativity, precision and power in the game and won 7-4 against Dr. Mohammed Sulemana.
In the doubles events: In-form Francis Akpese and Kwabena began the doubles on a bright note as they oust Sampson Sayibu and Fatawu Abubakari 7-1. The home team continued their fine form as Gyaakye Aidoo and Mensah beat Hassan Abraham and Rahman Salifu 7-3. Yaw B and Edem maintained their home dominance as they defeated Bonzi and Sule 7-3.
In the above 4O category: Captain of the club Daniel Agyapong and his doubles partner who is the President of the club, Benfankah relied heavily on the home support, held onto their serves and defeated their opponents in the persons of Emmanuel Lawson and Dadzie Dadson 7-3. Their win also inspired Daniel Agyekum Hene and Peter Aliba to beat Mohammed Sulemana and Eben 7-2.
NEDCo Tennis Club’s George Anarwatt’s combination with Zakaria Adams proved too strong for Kwabena &Peprah and won 7-6(5)
Speaking after the game President of Sunyani Tennis Club, Benfankah thanked his members for the victory.
In terms of tennis development, Mr. Benfankah said, the club was in collaboration with the public schools in Sunyani for Tennis in Schools development.
