The Member of Parliament for Subin, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, has alleged that the fire outbreak that ravaged shops at Adum PZ in Kumasi was triggered by an electrical fault following a power outage, commonly known as dumsor.
Delivering a statement on the matter in Parliament on Monday, March 24, the MP expressed deep concern over the devastating incident, which he described as one of the worst fire disasters in Ghana in decades.
According to him, reports from the Ghana National Fire Service, states that nearly 2,000 shops and countless goods worth millions of Ghana cedis were destroyed.
Mr. Yeboah, who revealed that he personally visited the scene, recounted the harrowing impact on traders and business owners who lost their life savings and investments in the blaze.
He revealed that his interactions with eyewitnesses and affected traders attributed the fire to an electrical spark that occurred when power was restored after an outage.
