The bail hearing application for eight remanded protestors of the #stopgalamsey demonstration has been adjourned to October 7, 2024, by an Accra High Court.
According to reports, the original application date was set for October 7, 2024, but the legal counsel for the protestors filed for an Abridgement of Time to have the hearing brought forward.
The case was then heard on Monday, September 30, 2024, but the State prosecutor requested additional time to study and respond which was granted by the court.
“AG’s department argued that the bail application should have included at least the charge sheet and the Circuit Court proceedings that had previously denied bail. Counsel for the protestors countered that the AG’s department already had the charge sheet, as they filed the charges. However, the AG’s department contended that the Circuit Court’s proceedings and ruling were not in their domain.”
“Counsel for the protestors requested a brief adjournment of one hour to retrieve and attach the necessary documents, but this request was denied.”
The Court after listening to both arguments by the State and the defense adjourned the proceedings to the original date of 7th October.
