Former Ketu South MP and General Secretary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey has opined that the only way government can improve the country’s economic state is to stop being deceitful to Ghanaians.
According to him, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) built their governance on the wrong foot by taking Ghanaians for a ride hence, making room for despair in the country.
In an exclusive interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, Fiifi Kwetey charged the country’s leadership to value the integrity of Ghanaians.
“The leadership should do what needed to be done at the very beginning, stop lying to the people. Because when you continue lying to the people, pretending that they’re not smart then you’re actually digging yourself a hole to be gone. That’s why for example they made all the noise about IMF but today they’re on their knees before the IMF. They’ve made similar noises about other things and today they’ve gone in full circle. Look at what they said reviewing the free SHS policy. They’ve gone full circle and they’re back. Their belief is that governance is all about how many lies you can tell. How you can coin, spin and lie to the people thinking that they’re not smart. That must stop,” he told Samuel Eshun.
“Nana Akufo Addo and Bawumia must accept that the lying must come to an end. Take responsibility. The people of Ghana are one of the most understanding and comforting people in the world. They know you’re not perfect but don’t think they’re fools. Tell them the truth,” he added.
Fiifi Kwetey further called on the government to be cautious of the spending rate as he highlighted that minimizing big spending would revamp the country’s economy.
“Secondly, live within your means and stop trying to live beyond your means and that’s exactly what the IMF is going to tell them. You cannot continue to live as if you have everything when you don’t. You can’t continue to live the irresponsible and lavish lifestyle we see with the president and his vice. You can’t continue to have the bloated government that we continue having. We cannot continue to go about doing all this political stuff thinking you’re fooling people when don’t have the means to be able to sustain them,” he said.
