“Stay in the Spanish League, don’t go to the England”- Coach warns Thomas Partey

Head coach of Techiman Eleven Wonders, Igantius Osei-Fosu has warned Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey not to move to English side Arsenal amidst a strong interest from the gunners who are willing to activate his release clause.

Partey, whose contract with Atletico Madrid runs out until 2023 with a €50m (£45m) release clause has been linked to European heavyweights, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-German and Arsenal who have shown the strongest of interest in the 26 year old midfielder so far.

There have been calls and suggestions from different quarters for the midfield dynamo to join the English Premier League as it will be a step higher in his football career. However, few people have suggested otherwise considering his style of play which probably will not suit English Premier League side Arsenal who are willing to offer him a contract.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Stephen Zando on Kumasi based YFM, Igantius Osei Fosu, who has been in charge of Techiman Eleven Wonders since the beginning of the Ghana Premier League quickly advised against any decision for Thomas Partey to move to England.

“He should stay in the La Liga, he should not go to the English Premier League”. He said

“For me, the Premiership is a league full of physicality, they used a lot of speed in playing and change of pace.

“When we see Partey play, he hardly does what we call change of pace and by this, I mean the same pace you will start the game with, is the same pace you will end the game.

“Nobody should get me wrong, just check when Essien was playing there [England], you will see Essien at one point like 40m away and he can give 40m sprint to another point and within 2 minutes he has done this for like 5 times.

“We don’t see that in Partey and so for me, in the English league where the players who sprint a lot go there and for the first season they struggle, Partey will struggle.” He added.

Ignatius Osei Fosu additionally stressed against any move to Arsenal as the club is not in the right position to help the player to progress.

“More so, it is not a club like Arsenal who are themselves struggling that you have to join.

“You know if you want to go there [England], you have to be in a team that is already winning, so when you go there and you do something small, the compliments will come but right now, Arsenal is struggling”. He stressed.
