Head of Marketing StarTimes Ghana, Akorfa Banson says the Bundesliga Football School is aimed at promoting and developing football at the youth level in the country.
StarTimes has commenced a five-day training programme for 100 young Ghanaian footballers in the country. The program is a partnership between StarTimes and the Deutsche Football Liga (DFL).
The young footballers were selected by the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Education Service for the Bundesliga School.
They comprise 25 female players aged under 17 years, 25 male players aged under 13 years, 25 players aged under 15 years and 25 male players aged under 17 years.
The program started on Saturday at the Lord’s Wembly in Shukura a suburb in Accra. The participants were taken through drills and training by the elite coaches.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of the event Mrs Akofa Banson said, “StarTimes focus is to develop young footballers at the youth levels in the country. We are doing this as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to promote youth football in Ghana that’s why we are partnering with the Bundesliga.
“We are doing this all because of the Love of football to develop Ghana football. The kids were selected with help from the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Education Service”, she added.
Head coach of the Bundesliga School, Birger Nass said that the young footballers will receive similar training to that of the German kids in the Bundesliga.
“In the next five days we will be working with the kids were they will train for 60 to 90 minutes. They will receive training similar to that of the German kids in the Bundesliga. We are going to show the coaches our philosophy so they can also use it to their benefit”.
He added that there will also be sharing of knowledge with the Ghanaian coaches.
Bundesliga School co-coordinator, Bjoern Nass disclosed that the programme will end on Wednesday with a football tournament to crown a German Bundesliga champion in Ghana.
He disclosed that Bundesliga legends Luthar Mathaus, Sammy Kuffuor and Charles Kwabla Akunnor will grace the occasion on the final day.
