The Head of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports and Culture and Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Alex Agyekum, has hinted that Sports will get a share of government’s Covid-19 stimulus package.
The government is set to release some funds to distressed organizations amid the Covid-19 pandemic from its $600 million stimulus package.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is engaging the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to also consider the industry as part of the distressed organizations to benefit from the funds.
Even though there hasn’t been any official communication from the government to consider the proposal from the Ghana Football Association, Alex Agyekum is of the view that government has something for football and sports in general.
“Sports will be part of the stimulus package to be given out by the government during this pandemic. Sports is keen to the President and definitely, it will come up in one of the stimulus packages”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9 FM via Zoom.
He added that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports is ready to support the Ghana Football Association on any proposal that will be put before parliament.
“We will be ready to do our part to support any proposal which is brought to Parliament for us to assist the sports industry with ”.
