The Ministry of Youth and Sports has instructed the Ghana Football Association to submit the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as venues for the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ban on the Baba Yara Stadium by CAF is because of the nature of the pitch and they have already taken steps to resolve it. The Ministry in a statement sighted by Happy Sports said the newly built University of Ghana Stadium has not been inspected by CAF and it is time they did so. “The Minister has directed the NSA to take steps to resolve issues with the pitch and further instructed the GFA to immediately request CAF to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the newly built University of Ghana Stadium for approval as Category 3 match venues for use by the Black Stars in its next international match in October.”
The Ministry added that they are confident the Accra Sports Stadium and University of Ghana Sports Stadium will meet the requirements of CAF for a category 3 game. “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is confident that the University of Ghana and the Accra Sports Stadia will meet the requirements for CAF’s category 3 matches after the inspection and again reiterate its commitment to upgrading the remaining national stadia to meet the standards required for CAF category 3 matches.”
