Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif calls on Ghanaians to back Chris Hughton

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has urged Ghanaians to rally behind Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton.

Chris Hughton, who was appointed technical head of the senior national team(Black Stars) last month, is yet to record a loss in his first two games in charge.

He secured four points in his first two games with Ghana in the doubleheader against Angola during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to the Sports Minister, it is still early days to assess the work done by Hughton hence urging Ghanaians to support the Black Stars gaffer.

“It is too early to judge him( Chris Hughton) based on his first two games. What he needs is for us as a country to support him to deliver. Hughton is committed to his job, he is dedicated, has the experience and we can all see that his tenure in office has started on a good note so let’s all rally behind him,” he said in an interview with Happy FM’s Joe Debrah.

Mustapha Ussif outlined the targets set by the FA in Chris Hughton’s Black Stars contract saying, “The objectives are set by the FA for him to ensure that we qualify for AFCON and also to ensure that we identify local talents from our league.

“To also ensure that we qualify for the World Cup and make sure Ghana’s ranking in the FIFA Ranking improves. These are the objectives in the contract that he has signed.”

Chris Hughton, on the other hand, has kept the promise he made Ghanaians at his unveiling of watching more local games part of his stay in Ghana.

He has been seen at some local match-day venues as he seeks to identify talents on the local scene.
