The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has disclosed that the problem in the banking sector that caused the shutdown of various banks in the country had already been detected by the National Democratic Congress(NDC), but they had no courage to deal with it.

Speaking at the first 2020 Government Town-hall Meeting, Dr. Bawumia stated that the National Patriotic Party(NPP) is still cleaning up the mess that the NDC created in the financial sector but did not have the heart to fix.

He said, ‘’The NDC was aware of the problem but they refused to act. Even in their management of the economy, they could not find the money to pay teacher training or nursing training allowances. Where would they have found GHC13Billion to pay depositors to rescue them from the collapse of the banks? They couldn’t do it. They didn’t have the space to do it’’.

The Vice President commented that had issues been left to the NDC to handle, he is sure that the banking system would have been collapsed by now. The NPP, according to him, is cleaning the banking sector and gradually working towards moving into the real sector of the economy, to focus on production rather than taxation.
