Rt. Hon Kingsford Alban Sumana Bagbin has expressed his gratitude following his re-election as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Bagbin reflected on the honor of holding the prestigious office, a position he had previously held during the 8th Parliament. He thanked the Almighty God for the grace and opportunity to serve in this role again, describing it as a rare achievement.
He acknowledged the trust and confidence placed in him by Members of Parliament, stating that his re-election was a testament to their faith in his leadership. He also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for recommending him as a candidate for Speaker. Drawing on his extensive experience as the longest-serving legislator and his leadership during the challenging period of a hung Parliament, Bagbin pledged to guide the House with efficiency, diligence, and a deep sense of responsibility.
“I came to the speaker of the 8th Parliament with my experience as the longest legislature of the house. I now come to the same parliament with just not that background but now with the experience of four years of the leadership of a very difficult hung Parliament. I promise to bring all these experiences to bear in guiding this house to perform its mandate with efficiency, diligence and above all with a sense of being the bulwark of democracy in Ghana,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of Parliament as the cornerstone of democracy in Ghana and urged the public to stay engaged with the workings of the legislature.
