Speaker Bagbin calls for collaboration in policymaking to address Transnational challenges at Atlantic African Parliament Meeting

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called for a collaborative policymaking framework to address pressing transnational challenges faced by the African-Atlantic region.

Speaking at the Meeting of Speakers of Parliament of Atlantic African Countries in Rabat, Morocco, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and promoting good governance to combat issues such as terrorism, organized crime, maritime piracy, illegal migration, climate change, and health pandemics.

Underscoring the importance of the collaboration, speaker Bagbin reiterated that a united approach would be crucial in creating conducive conditions for consolidating peace, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity in the region.

“In embracing this initiative with enthusiasm and dedication, we can build a stable, integrated, and prosperous Atlantic Africa that stands as a beacon of hope and progress on the global stage”.

Speaker Bagbin reiterated Africa’s collective interests and the need for enhanced dialogue to promote regional integration.

He highlighted that by supporting collective socio-economic development policies through legislative action, the forum could significantly contribute to regional peace and security.

“We must formulate an operational framework that outlines the Forum’s structure, and operational guidelines, which provides a mechanism to coordinate the activities of the Forum, facilitate communication, organize meetings, provide administrative support, monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and report to member countries”.

Speaker Bagbin pledged Ghana’s commitment to the initiative.

“Let us seize this opportunity to build bridges, create partnerships, and work together towards the common goal of peace, prosperity, and unity in our shared zone”

He added that, “It is in our collective interest to embrace this initiative with enthusiasm and dedication. Together, we can build a stable, integrated, and prosperous Atlantic Africa that stands as a beacon of hope and progress on the global stage”.
