South Sudan's peace monitoring body meets to discuss election postponement

South Sudan’s peace monitoring body, also known as (RJMEC) has commenced talks for a suitable plan to help the nation restore electoral integrity.

Reports indicate that deliberations follow a two-year long postponement of its general elections which was scheduled to take place in December.

The Head of the UN mission to the country which has never held polls since its independence in 2011 said a new work plan was needed to restore confidence in South Sudan’s leadership.

RJMEC has revealed that the appeals made to international peace partners for the provision of up-front funding for democratic institutions and processes, must be accompanied with efficient management of the country’s own resources being to provide for the peace deal and elections.
