The Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Apaak, has underscored the crucial role of technology in advancing the country’s education sector.
He emphasized that embracing smart learning nationwide is one of the fastest ways for Ghana to catch up with the rest of the world.
Speaking at the launch of the ASANKA Learning Management Platform on March 27, 2025, in Accra, Dr Apaak stated, “As a Deputy Minister of Education, I can tell you on authority that my own background compels me to appreciate the role that technology, and e-learning in particular, is playing in our quest to develop as a nation.”
He further noted that the increasing use of digital tools such as computers, smartphones, and tablets has become the norm in modern education systems.
“Fast forward to today, the use of computers, Android mobile phones, and tablets has now become normal, and that is the way of the future.
“If, as a nation, we are going to be competitive in this 21st century and produce the type of manpower required for development, one of the shortest ways is to make smart learning accessible everywhere in Ghana.”
Dr Apaak commended TECHAiDE, the developers of ASANKA, for their innovative approach to bridging the digital education gap.
He acknowledged that the platform aligns with the government’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance education. Kafui A. Prebbie, CEO of TECHAiDE, the organization behind ASANKA, emphasized the transformative role of technology in education.
“A Canadian educator and a technology integration specialist once said, Technology will never replace great teachers, but in the hands of great teachers, it is transformational.
“This quote highlights that while technology can be a powerful tool in education, it is not a replacement for skilled teachers. “Instead, when used effectively by teachers, technology enhances the learning experience and leads to significant positive outcomes, as seen in some schools in the tech industry,” he said.
He added that the platform empowers institutions with affordable, flexible, and inclusive digital learning solutions.
According to Prebbie, the platform offers multiple features, including: • Instant feedback on lessons • Preloaded offline content • Analytics to identify students needing support • Accessibility through phones, Wi-Fi, and smart TVs • A platform where publishers can upload and download educational content
