Ghana Premier League giants, Hearts of Oak, can now relax as their legal battle with Serbian coach Slavko Matic and his lawyer Cristobal Martell has ended.
Matic revealed that he withdrew the case due to his relationship with Togbe Afede, the chairman of Hearts of Oak. Earlier, Matic had filed a case with FIFA against the club, alleging unfair treatment.
“My lawyer [Cristobal Martell] prepared everything but I have decided to withdraw due to my relationship with Togbe Afede. We will find a way to solve it because I am busy now with other things and family issues,” the Serbian said in an interview as reported by Ghanasportspage.
To handle the case, Matic hired a renowned lawyer, Cristobal Martell, who has worked with famous personalities like Lionel Messi and Daniel Alves. Matic had demanded $2 million (Gh¢24,777,680.00) in compensation and other benefits, but he has now decided to retract his claim.
Matic had taken over as head coach of Hearts of Oak in October 2022 and had supervised 16 games in the Ghanaian league before he departed.
Hearts of Oak is yet to name a new coach, and Coach David Ocloo is currently serving as their caretaker.
