Sir Alex Ferguson quits his beloved red wine

Sir Alex Ferguson has quit alcohol, including his beloved red wine, as he recovers back to full health following brain surgery.

The former Manchester United boss underwent emergency surgery back in May following a brain haemorrhage.

Since his surgery, he has been steadily recovering at his home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The 76-year-old visited the South of France for a holiday recently and has given up drinking alcohol, according to The Sun.

‘He drank water every time he visited us, not a drop of wine touched his lips,’ a staff member at Villefranche-sur-Mer’s La Mare Germaine restaurant said.

‘Sir Alex loves his wines but he’s stopped drinking for the time being — that’s not so good for us, but his health has to come first.

‘We’ll all raise a glass to him when he feels he’s ready to go back on the red.’

Ferguson returned to Old Trafford for the first time since recovering from brain surgery last month.

During his 26-year tenure at United, Ferguson moulded a succession of outstanding and vaunted teams, winning the Champions League twice, 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and the European Cup Winners’ Cup during his time there between 1986 and 2013.
