The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) has engaged in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
A delegation from the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) led by its Director-General, Ambassador Edward Boateng paid a courtesy call on the Director of the IMF AFRITAC WEST 2, Ms. Eva Jenkner on Friday, 20th January 2023.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between SIGA and the IMF. The discussions also focused on SIGA’s mandate, strategies and similar models across the globe.
In his remarks, Ambassador Boateng commended the IMF for their continued cooperation with Ghana and Africa over the years and shared the SIGA vision and mandate with all present.
“SIGA’s role primarily is to ensure Specified Entities (SEs) are efficient and profitable; an expectation our President; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is passionate about. In a short period of time, we have successfully witnessed an increase in the number of SEs signing our performance compacts year over year, as well as an improvement in SEs’ financial reporting. As success begets success, we are now recognised as a role model in Africa and have hosted various state agencies from other countries in the continent, including the Gambia, Liberia and Somaliland to share knowledge and exchange ideas”, he said.
In a presentation SIGA’s Head of Research, Innovation, Planning and Strategy, Dr. Prince Edward Darah shared an overview of SIGA’s activities, successes and future projects.
In her address, Ms. Eva Jenkner expressed gratitude to Ambassador Boateng for visiting and emphasised the IMF’s readiness to assist SIGA through trainings and partnerships.
“We are grateful for your visit. We would be happy to support SIGA because the IMF dedicates about a third of its budget to advisory services and capacity building “she stated.
Mr. Kubai Khasiani, the IMF AFRITAC WEST 2’s Regional Advisor for Public Financial Management further stated that SIGA’s visit was strategic because the IMF was already in discussions with SIGA for peer learning and other training programmes.
