Senegal part ways with manager Aliou Cissé after 9 years

The Senegalese Football Association has confirmed the departure of head coach and former captain, Aliou Cissé.

Aliou Cissé parted ways with the Terenga Lions of Senegal mutually after 9 years in a statement sighted by Happy Sports on social media.

The Senegal FA announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, that the legendary Aliou Cissé’s contract will not be extended thus bringing an end to a 9-year relationship.

“The FSF would like to thank Mr. Aliou CISSE for his good collaboration and his brilliant results at the head of the various national selections that he has lead since his arrival in 2011 and wishes him every success for the future,” part of the statement reads.

Aliou Cissé’s tenure as Senegal’s head coach was very successful after winning the 2021 AFCON after losing the finals to Algeria in 2019.

He also qualified Senegal to two successful FIFA World Cup tournaments in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.
