Security Expert, Samuel Owusu, has argued that any form of demonstration which goes beyond 6pm has a lot of risks associated to it.
According to him, the safety of persons who organize any demonstration which goes beyond 6pm cannot be assured.
An Accra High Court has ruled that pressure group, Arise Ghana can stage its protest only between the hours of 8am to 4pm.
The court additionally directed that the protest should commence at the Obra Spot here in Accra and end at the Independence Square.
This was the decision of the court in connection with a case filed by the Ghana Police Service.
The Service filed the case seeking to halt the two day protest set to commence on Tuesday.
This was after it alleged in a statement that the group, Arise Ghana, had refused to begin and end the demonstration before night fall.
“I believe any demonstration which goes beyond 6pm has a lot of risks associated to it. First of all, you cannot even see all the participants and control what they will do. It is ideal to have a demonstration at an hour where there is good visibility to identify criminal elements. Criminals can take advantage of the demonstration to commit crime,” he told Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show.
Reiterating that late night demonstrations have a lot of security implications; he applauded the court for preventing the Arise Ghana group from embarking on the two-day uninterrupted demonstration.
He urged demonstrators to heed to the ruling of the court as this will prevent innocents from suffering bodily harm.
