Efua Turkson, the Gender Equity and Research Manager at Emerging Public Leaders Ghana has said that the active participation of men is needed to advance the fight for women’s equal rights.

Speaking at the 2024 Rise Women Conference held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Efua Turkson said training for gender equality cannot be organized for only women without men.

“Gender is a social concept where roles are assigned for both men and women and in order to enhance the fight for women empowerment, we need to involve the men who are making majority of the decisions in the society.”

“Once the men understand what we are doing, they will be able to help their women in the home, work place and all other places and that will go a long way to help us in the fight for women empowerment,” she told Happy News.

She added that the 2024 Rise Women Conference was focused on promoting women’s right and freedoms, financial independence and “equal opportunities and ensure they do not face any kind of discrimination because they are women.
