The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, has said that the results from the clinical psychologist assigned to the nurse who suffered verbal abuse at the hands of the Ashanti Regional NSS Director would influence their next line of action.
According to him, the Association noticed the incident was bound to affect the nurses’ safety “so we provided her with a clinical psychologist and advanced psychological support for a period of two weeks where we felt was safe,” he said.
Speaking in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning show, the General Secretary revealed, “we are awaiting results from the clinical psychologist to inform our next line if action with respect to the nurse as whether she is in a right frame of mind to work in that particular facility,” he mentioned.
He added, “If it so happens and the recommendation also dictates that she can’t continue her work in that facility, we shall meet with the hospital leadership for her transfer.”
The National Service Scheme (NSS) has with immediate effect suspended its Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Opoku-Mensah.
The suspension comes after Mr Opoku-Mensah stormed the Manhyia Hospital in the Ashanti Region and abused a nurse who allegedly mistreated his daughter, a doctor at the facility.
A statement by the NSS stated that the decision was made on Wednesday, November 30 at an emergency meeting the management of the Scheme held with Mr Opoku-Mensah.
