Restoring EC logo comes with no cost – Dep. EC PRO

Deputy Communications Director for the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Yussuf Ayuba has said that his outfit’s decision to revert to its original logo which bears the Coat of Arms and has a ballot box showing the hand casting its vote, involves no cost.

According to Mr. Ayuba, the EC had already planned this decision, so they restrained from printing more letter-heads with the new logo on it.

However, the EC has exhausted all already printed letter-heads with the new logo.

The EC under the leadership of Madam Charlotte Osei, changed the logo in 2016 to a multi-coloured one because according to her, “We do not represent the authority of the state. We are more than the ballot box. Our mandate is beyond just the ballot box as we’ve explained and we believe that the Coat of Arms does not speak to the independence, legal and functional independence of the commission.”

However, a memo dated December 4, 2018, and signed by Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa, indicated that the original logo has been restored with immediate effect.

Mr. Ayuba speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ said, “There is no cost involved in restoring the old logo. This was a strategic decision planned well because we have exhausted all the letter heads with the new logo on it.”

He added that, it is very necessary for the EC to revert to its original logo with the Coat Of Arms because it reflects the work they do at the EC.

He also opined that, it was very easy in understanding the logo as the staff themselves found it difficult in explaining the new logo introduced by the past EC boss, Madam Charlotte Osei.
