December 17 Referendum won't cause political sabotage - CDD

The Programmes Director for the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD), Nana Kwame Abrampa Mensah says that, the December 17 Referendum will in no way cause sabotage by local government officials.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ he said, “There is no way a District Chief Executive (DCE) in a party stronghold  will sabotage a sitting government. Those voting for you are your constituents and if you don’t work well to their satisfaction,  they’ll vote you out of power.”

According to the CDD Programmes Director,  any DCE who tries to sabotage a government in power is actually digging their own grave. “Any DCE who will try to sabotage a sitting government will not be a problem to it because DCEs don’t control the national development agenda”, he said.

But he believes most local government executives will not do this but focus on the execution of their mandates.

The proposed amendment which will be voted on in a referendum scheduled for December 17, will allow local government elections to be partisan.
