Real Tamale United secured a return to the Ghana Premier League on Sunday on the final day after an eight-year stay in the second division.
The Pride of the North beat Unity FC 2-0 at home to tally 65 points and topple previous leaders Tano Bofoakwa,
Their promotion was aided by Berekum Arsenals’ 0-0 home draw with Bofoakwa at the Golden City Park in the other winner-take-all clash.
RTU’s demotion in 2013 was a mixture of financial crisis and managerial inefficiencies which affected results.
Before the final day of that season, the Northern Lions had failed to record a win in 29 games.
They had conceded as many as 71 goals and scored just 19 times – an average of 0.65 per game.
