Protestors in Zimbabwe expressed frustration in a heated demonstration across the capital for the resignation of President Emmerson Mmnwanga.
Reports indicate that independence war veterans had called for the demonstration to protest against plans to extend Mnangagwa’s rule.
Many social centres, schools and shops have closed down as the forceful petition spreads over the capital, Harare and Bulakayo state. Citizens have chosen to stay home for fear of their lives.
Mnangagwa came to power in 2017 after his mentor and long-term president, Robert Mugabe, was ousted in a coup.
He is currently serving his second and final term as president. However, his ruling party ZANU-PF party eyed an extra two-year stay.
Security forces have been deployed in several cities across Zimbabwe largely neutralising the national protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa as they call for Vice President Constantine Chiwenga, to take over as president.
