Protect our culture by supporting Ghanaian publishers - Ghana Publishers' Association to Gov’t

The Ghana Publishers’ Association says it has observed with concern how students over the years have been reintroduced to western styles and concepts through books donated by European countries.

According to the Association, it is high time Ghanaian writers and publishers are encouraged to produce more books that will “assimilate” students into the Ghana culture.

President of the Association, Asare Konadu Yamoah in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, expressed: “There has been this mad move by book aid companies who were buying second-hand books or getting free books from America. We were gradually reintroducing our children to that western-style and the concept that everything Ghana is inferior and that anything European is superior.

We must understand that we are at a stage that every country is protecting their culture and people from foreign interference in mental and psychological thought and we must encourage our writers to write relevant to the Ghanaian culture so that we can assimilate our children into the system. This is so that they can start thinking Ghanaian because the books are to make them feel proud of being Ghanaians”.

Asare Konadu appealed to Government to revive the financial support to these writers and publishers by patronizing books written and published by Ghanaians as it was done in the past.
