Henry Osei Akoto, the 2020 Parliamentary candidate for the Oforikrom Constituency and a member of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) communication team, has reiterated that, the late President Evans Atta-Mills served the country selflessly and with humility.
Henry Osei Akoto believes the late President was an ideal servant of Ghana and led the country whole-heartedly with passion for the country’s development.
According to him, leaders like Prof. Atta Mills barely come along and for that he felt sorry Ghana lost such a great gem.
During a discussion on Happy98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben socio-political show, he told Don Kwabena Prah, “It is remarkable to say that at a point in Ghana’s history we had a president who through everything proved he was always selfless in his dealings. He was humble, passionate and gave his all to serving the country at the highest level. At a point he was called the Asomdwe Hene. I clearly remember when the late President visited the Tema Port. We all witnessed how emotional he got when he realized there was too much rot in the system. He was surprised and disappointed at what was happening at the port. He didn’t believe people could actually do such things knowing it would cause the country’s development. Every Ghanaian then knew that indeed the man was on the quest to develop the country and he was always for the betterment of Ghana.”
He further opined that the country would have been on a different path if the late Prof Atta-Mills was not for peace and a man of valor. “The man was called the Asomdwe Hene for a reason. Looking at the things that transpired from the year 2008 onwards, especially from opposition, the country would have a different story today,” he added.
This comes at the back of the recent launch of the Atta Mills Memorial Heritage on Tuesday February 1, 2021. The event was held at the Cedi Conference Centre at the University of Ghana under the theme: “The man John Evans Atta Mills – 10 years on.”
The Memorial Heritage is a non-profit, independent, non-partisan organization anchored in Professor Mills’ passion and commitment to inclusivity, transparency, accountability and his relentless quest for peace and a better society.
