Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo has imposed a lock down on cities in the country as part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus epidemic.
In his fourth address to the nation, the president said the affected areas are Accra, Tema, and Kumasi which he described as “hotspots” of the outbreak.
The lock down will take place from Monday, 30th March, 2020 at 1:00am.
According to Nana Addo, the move is to enable contact tracing of persons who have come into contact with persons who have tested positive for the deadly virus.
He also added, that people could move out to buy food, medicine, visit the bank for a transaction or go to the public toilet.
Since the start of the week, there have been numerous calls on Nana Akufo-Addo to declare a lockdown like many countries have done to mitigate the growing spread of the deadly disease.
A lockdown is typically an emergency protocol that a state uses to prevent people from leaving a particular area.
As of Friday, March 27, 2020, Ghana has recorded 137 confirmed cases.
