The Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu and Ranking member on Energy in Parliament, John Jinapor has said that His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia should be held liable for the current erratic power supply in Ghana.
According to him, Ghana is experiencing serious load shedding because of 500 megawatts(MW) capacity deficit. He added that the current deficit in power generation is mainly due to inadequate fuel supply and financial challenges.
Speaking on the 8th edition of NDC 360 show with Sammy Gyamfi, John Jinapor explained that the demand for electricity is increasing everyday because of population growth hence the necessary capacity the country needs is not what the government is supplying.
In addition, payments for gas have been very irregular and inconsistent, leading to serious power crisis. This is because serious financial challenges have led to the inability of the state to support with fuel purchase.
The “Dumsor” accumulated debt and losses under Prez. Nana Addo and Bawumia made the cost of living very difficult for Ghanaians with higher inflation and unemployment rates.
Ghana has an outstanding debt of over 600 million dollars for raw gas, ECG, he said is also facing serious forex losses with consumer population at 5,426,242 therefore the necessary capacity should be generated to serve the nation to avoid the erratic power supply being experienced now.
