The President, John Dramami Mahama has assured the Muslim community in Ghana of his commitment to fulfilling promises made to them during the 2024 campaign. According to the president it is incumbent on him to keep faith with the Muslim community after receiving massive support from them.
Speaking at the Muslim Thanksgiving prayer held earlier today at the National Mosque, Kanda, to officially thank the Muslim community for their support in the overwhelming victory he enjoyed in the 2024 polls, John Mahama reiterated that he was aware of the various concerns presented to him by the Muslim community in the lead up to the 2024 elections.
Referencing the list of concerns submitted, H.E John Mahama indicated that about twelve out of the lot were adopted into his 2024 Campaign Manifesto, which he promises to fulfil.
Key amongst the concerns, he stressed, is the high cost of Hajj Pilgrimage. He said he considers the concern a high stake one which demands immediate response. The president during his speech disclosed that he had already taken an immediate action on the matter by establishing a 5-member committee to rectify the solution.
“I have formed a five-member Hajj Taskforce chaired by the longest serving MP in Ghana’s Parliament, Collins Dauda”. He added that he has asked the taskforce to ensure they bring the cost of the Hajj Pilgrimage to the barest minimum.
The president informed the teeming Muslim community gathered at the event that the team will be heading to Saudi Arabia on Monday with the onerous task of finding the means to reduce Hajj cost for the 2025 Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca.
He assured his government will do all it can to efficiently address the many concerns of the Muslim community in Ghana.
