President Akufo-Addo has taken a decisive action by revoking the appointments of 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) with immediate effect.
The startling decision was communicated through a letter signed on Friday, February 2, according to official sources.
The President cited constitutional and legal provisions as the basis for his swift action, specifically referencing Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936). These legal frameworks appear to grant the President the authority to revoke such appointments.
In the letter from the Presidency, President Akufo-Addo instructed the dismissed DCEs, “Under separate cover, write to nominate their replacement.” The President’s directive suggests a prompt replacement process is already in motion.
Curiously, the President did not elaborate on the reasons behind the sudden dismissal of the 24 District Chief Executives, leaving the public and political observers in suspense. The lack of clarity surrounding the motives behind the move has fueled speculation and raised eyebrows.
