In a historic address marking his return to the presidency, John Dramani Mahama outlined his vision for Ghana’s future during his inauguration ceremony. Before presenting his vision, the President extended gracious acknowledgments to his political rivals. He commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his sportsmanship in making an early concession, which helped ease electoral tensions. He also reflected on his long-standing political rivalry with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, noting their mutual respect despite belonging to opposing parties.

Here are the most significant points from his speech:

Ghana’s Democratic Journey and Reset
Mahama emphasized the significance of Ghana’s 32-year democratic journey since January 7, noting that the nation needs a reset in governance and economic management. He stressed that this moment marks a new opportunity to make meaningful changes in how the country is governed.

Historic Female Leadership
The President celebrated a watershed moment in Ghana’s history with the inauguration of the nation’s first female Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, highlighting the administration’s commitment to gender equality and female representation in governance.

Economic Transformation and 24-Hour Economy
A cornerstone of Mahama’s vision is the introduction of an innovative 24-hour economy, with a strong focus on agriculture and agribusiness. He pledged to work with the private sector to create well-paying jobs and improve the business environment.

Four Strategic Priorities
The administration will concentrate on four critical areas: economic restoration, improving the business climate, implementing governance and constitutional reforms, and strengthening accountability in the fight against corruption.

Global Economic Perspectives
Mahama acknowledged shifting global economic dynamics, particularly noting the rising economic influence of BRICS nations compared to the G7, suggesting a need for Ghana to adapt to changing global economic patterns.

Public Health Preparedness
In response to global health challenges, the President committed to strengthening Ghana’s public health systems to better prepare for future pandemics and minimize potential loss of lives.

Technological Challenges
The President addressed the complex challenges posed by emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, acknowledging the need to address potential national, financial, and personal security concerns.

Business Community Engagement
Mahama extended an open invitation to business leaders and entrepreneurs, declaring “Ghana is open for business again” and encouraging their participation in shaping a more creative business environment.

Inclusive Governance
The President emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance, promising that decisions would champion diversity and ensure opportunities for all Ghanaians to contribute to the nation’s development.

Call for National Unity
Concluding his speech, Mahama made a patriotic call to action, urging all Ghanaians to participate in building a nation that fulfills its promise, fostering an environment where hope thrives and dreams become reality.
