President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to visit Bawku today as part of efforts to address the ongoing conflict in the area.

While the main agenda has not been officially disclosed, the visit aligns with his campaign promise to prioritize resolving the Bawku conflict if elected.
He is expected to meet with the Bawku Naba, local leaders, and other key stakeholders to discuss ways to restore peace and stability in the region.

The conflict, which resurfaced in October, is linked to a chieftaincy dispute that reignited after a rival Chief returned to the town following years of exile. The violence has claimed numerous lives, including women and children, and has greatly disrupted daily life, leaving residents in fear.

Despite the presence of security forces and the enforcement of a dawn-to-dusk curfew, gun attacks persist as combatants exploit gaps in security operations. The situation has disrupted economic activities, forced schools and businesses to close, and worsened the humanitarian crisis, with many residents fleeing to neighboring areas for safety.

President Mahama’s visit is expected to demonstrate his renewed commitment to helping resolve the conflict through dialogue with traditional leaders, community representatives, and government officials.
