President John Dramani Mahama has established a task force to address the ongoing flooding issues across the country.
The newly formed Anti-Flood Taskforce will be chaired by Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations. Marietta Brew, the President’s Legal Counsel, will serve as the Taskforce Secretary.
Other key members include Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister for Water Resources, Works & Housing; Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government; DCOP Abdul Osman Razak, National Security Coordinator; and Teddy Addi, Deputy Director-General of NADMO.
To assess flood-prone areas and gather vital data for prevention, the task force conducted an aerial survey of key locations such as Weija, the Sakumo Ramsar Site, and the Tema Fishing Harbour area.
In a media interview on March 12, Stan Dogbe announced that more stringent measures would be put in place to combat flooding. He also revealed that the Local Government Ministry, in partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces, would begin the urgent task of desilting major drains.
