President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghana’s security services to enhance their efforts in maintaining peace and security, with particular emphasis on addressing growing threats along the country’s borders.

At an engagement with the security services’ on Tuesday, January 14, President Mahama acknowledged their critical role in safeguarding the nation, while underscoring the need for heightened vigilance in the face of both internal and external challenges.

Internally, President Mahama pointed to ongoing issues such as chieftaincy disputes and occasional incidents of robbery as significant concerns that could affect the stability of the country. Externally, he expressed worry about potential threats along Ghana’s northern borders, urging the security forces to remain alert and proactive in addressing these risks.

He stressed that it was imperative to avoid any vacuum in the country’s security framework, and stressed the importance of continued collaboration among the various security agencies. He encouraged the security services to work with zeal, ensuring that no breaches of peace occur, and reaffirmed his support for their ongoing efforts.

President Mahama outlined the government’s commitment to establishing key security institutions. These structures, once set up, will help manage security operations more effectively and address any outstanding issues within the services.

He expressed confidence in the security services’ ability to maintain peace and stability and called on them to continue their work in the best interests of the people of Ghana.
