The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed that the recent mass gathering by the Christ Embassy Youth denotes their lack of appreciation for the work of health workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

President of the Association, Frank Ankobea was of the view that these persons have made the efforts of health workers futile with their actions which is likely to increase the number of COVID-19 cases.
In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he stated: “If you look at how health workers are committed to working against the spread of COVID-19 and then a group of people decide to show the blatant disregard for the COVID-19 protocols to the extent that they also shout, ‘we no dey fear Corona’, it means the work we are putting in is useless. Does that mean we should withdraw our services from COVID-19 activities?”.
Dr. Frank Ankobea charged the security agencies to bring these persons who flouted the COVID-19 safety protocols to book.
“The security agencies should be up and doing. These people must be prosecuted or else others will follow suit. It is sad that we have fought COVID-19 to this point only for some people to decide that they will have no social distancing, no masking and do what they want. It is very disturbing”, he added.

Over the weekend, the police invited for questioning, the leaders of a charismatic church, Christ Embassy Church in Ghana, over an alleged gathering by the youth of the church who blatantly disregarded the COVID-19 safety protocols at an event at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair Centre in Accra last Friday, April 30.
Also, the management of the venue was invited for questioning as part of police investigation over a trending video of the alleged gathering, dubbed: “Pneumatic Night” which showed an event that had a mass crowd in attendance but without face masks and were seen screaming, chanting and dancing to the “evangelism” which was considered a super spreader event for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases stand at 1580 with 779 deaths.
