The People’s National Convention (PNC) has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) not to issue final certification to the People’s National Party (PNP) as a political party.
In a statement addressed to the EC, the PNC’s legal team expressed concerns about the name PNP, which is very similar to PNC, since PNP was the precursor to PNC.
They stated that using the palm nut tree as the emblem for the new party, PNP, with the PNC’s emblem as coconut tree would further confuse voters, leading them to believe that PNC and PNP are the same.
The statement also mentioned that because the leaders of the PNP are former PNC executives, along with the historical link between the old PNP and PNC, voters will likely think that the new PNP and PNC are identical.
