Former Ghanaian forward Augustine Arhinful has expressed strong belief that Coach Oti Akenteng, the seasoned football tactician, should have been included in the recently established five-member coach selection committee by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The remarks come in the wake of the dismissal of Coach Chris Hughton, leading to the swift formation of a committee to oversee the process of appointing a new head coach.
The five-member committee, spearheaded by Mark Addo, includes Vice Chairman Ace Ankomah (Esq.), a distinguished Legal Practitioner and law lecturer, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, the Director of Coaching Education of the GFA, Opoku Nti, a Ghanaian football legend, and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
In an exclusive interview on Wamputu Sports with Jefferies Sintim-Koree, Arhinful stated, “Coach Oti Akenteng is the best technical brain we have in Ghana, and he should have been part of the 5-member coach selection committee.”
Oti Akenteng, a figure well-respected in Ghanaian football, has a rich history of service to the GFA, serving in various capacities since 2006.
Initially appointed by the Confederation of African Football as Head of the Technical unit of the GFA, he was later elevated to FIFA level in 2009 as GFA Technical Director and Head of the Technical Centre, Ghanaman Centre of Excellence, Prampram.
However, his tenure concluded in March 2020 following the expiration of his contract.
