Ghanaian forward Osei Barnes opened the scoring for Arouca FC in their 2-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon B in the Portuguese Segunda division on Saturday afternoon.
Arouca, who are flying aloft of the league standings, needed to win against Sporting to keep up with their four-game winning streak as they look to pick of the two automatic qualification tickets at the end of the campaign.
The Arouquenses shot into the lead in the 24th minute after Osei Barnes headed home from close range.
Barnes was taken off in the 90th minute while compatriot Ernest Ohemeng lasted 63 minutes for the victors.
The victory extended Arouca’s lead to the top of the league to 46 points, one ahead of Santa Clara who have a game in hand.
