ORAL is not going to investigate people- Mahama clarifies

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, is not a political witch-hunting tool.

Speaking during a meeting with the Canadian High Commission in Ghana on Thursday December 19, 2024, Mr. Mahama highlighted the significant role the Operation Recover All Loot Committee would play.

“I announced the preparatory committee, I think people are misunderstanding it. We’re receiving a lot of information on things that are going wrong, or things, I mean, corruption scandals and all that. “We want a focal point where all evidence on corruption scandals or misconduct can be directed. ORAL is not investigating people but compiling evidence for government agencies tasked with such duties’’.

He mentioned that, the committee would not benefit from any allowances.

Mr. Mahama’s comment comes amid growing concerns on the activities of the committee and whether or not their activities would be government funded.

“They are doing the service as pro bono, they are not receiving any allowances , there’s is no expenditure or budget associated with the task that they are carrying out”.
