President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative was established to combat corruption and ensure accountability in public office and not to unfairly target individuals.
Addressing members of the Ghana Bar Association during a courtesy call, President Mahama emphasized ORAL’s role as a whistleblower platform with proper investigative procedures in place.
“One of the issues we are confronted with is the issue of corruption and accountability in office. It’s become the norm for people to dip their hands into the public purse or misappropriate funds”.
President Mahama highlighted the urgency of addressing corruption, which was ranked among the top five concerns of Ghanaians during the last campaign.
The ORAL initiative, equipped with a hotline that received over 2,000 calls, has been instrumental in uncovering corruption cases.
While some allegations were unfounded, others were forwarded to the Attorney General for further action.
President Mahama clarified that the initiative is not a tool for political persecution but a vital mechanism in the fight against corruption.
“So I just wanted to clarify that it’s not an instrument for witch-hunting anybody. It’s an instrument for assisting in the fight against corruption,” he affirmed.
