Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has issued a warning against the misuse or misappropriation of funds from the Daakye Bond. He emphasized that the funds must be used for their intended purpose and cautioned against any attempts to divert or mismanage them.
Speaking during a Youth Forum in Ho, John Mahama singled out Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate and former Education Minister, for scrutiny. Mahama asserted that Opoku Prempeh has unresolved questions to answer regarding his oversight of the Daakye Bond during his tenure as Education Minister.
Mahama alleged that during his tenure as Education Minister, Dr. Opoku Prempeh presided over the allocation of 4 billion cedis from the Daakye Bond, yet failed to ensure meaningful progress on the projects funded by the bond. He pointed out that a significant number of these projects remain incomplete, raising concern about the effective utilization of the funds.
Mahama emphasized that, if elected, his administration would conduct thorough audits to ensure transparency and accountability. He warned that individuals found guilty of misusing or misappropriating public funds would face consequences.
